Bishop Adams has authorized the following materials from the national church for use in this diocese.
• Enriching our Worship I
• Enriching our Worship II
• The Revised Common Lectionary
Enriching our Worship I and II are available from Church Publishing. The Revised Common Lectionary may be accessed online here. A paperback version of the NRSV texts is available from St. Mark's Press, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 West 21st Street, Wichita, KS 67205-1743. Bulletin inserts of the Revised Common Lectionary are available from several bulletin insert services. The principal difference is that the seasons after Epiphany and Pentecost have 2 tracks: one in which the first reading is coordinated with the epistle or gospel, and the other in which the first reading provides a sequential reading of major sections of the Old Testament and is not coordinated with the readings from the epistles and gospels. The purpose of the sequential readings is to provide systematic coverage of the Old Testament. The Revised Common Lectionary is followed by most major American denominations and by several other churches of the Anglican Communion.
Bishop Adams has also authorized the following materials:
• Proper Supplications for use with Eucharistic Prayers A and B
• Variations on the Ordination Rites for Deacons
• Variations on the Ordination Rites for Priests
. A Memorandum on the Rite of Celebration of New Ministry
• Guidelines on the Celebration of New Ministry
. Guidelines for the Celebration of a New Ministry in the Diocese of Washington
. Renewal of Ministry with the Welcoming of a New Rector
The Diocesan Commission on Liturgy and Music has also prepared model guidelines for Funerals and Marriages which are offered to parishes as starting points for their own policies for these services.
Other Resources
Proper forms for the Prayers of the People for Sundays and major holy days are available online. The forms given are meant to be adapted to Form I, page 383. Each petition should end, ?let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
Prayer Books from other churches of the Anglican Communion may be accessed here. Note that these are not authorized for use in the Episcopal Church. Those who wish to make use of them should first consult with the bishop.
A very useful resource is the Book of Common Worship of the Presbyterian Church (USA). While this book as such is not authorized for use in the Episcopal Church, seasonal variants of the Prayers of the People and other seasonal material (such as devotions for use with the Advent Wreath) might be used in our services.
The full text of Morning and Evening Prayer for each day, with karaoke for the canticles and a hymn and information of any saint commemorated on the day may be accessed at www.missionstclare.com
